THIS IS OUR 1ST QUARTER REPORT FOR THE MAIN STREET ACTIVITIES.

I'M GOING TO COCOUNSEL BY COUNSEL, THERE IS QUITE A BIT LISTED AND I WILL HIGHLIGHT A FEW THINGS.

WITH OUR ECONOMIC VITALITY COUNSEL WE ARE LOOKING TO SUPPORT BUSINESSES. WE PROVIDE WEEKLY E-MAILS WITH ANY INFORMATION REGARDING STREET CLOSER OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

I DID HAVE AN E-MAIL I WANTED TO SHARE AS A RESULT OF LAST WEEK'S E-MAIL TO THE BUSINESS FROM ONE OF OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES.

FIRST I WANTED TO EXPRESS MY GRATITUDE FOR YOUR TIME AND EFFORT PROVIDING THE INFORMATION TO LOCAL BUSINESSES ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING DOWNTOWN. I USE THIS TO HELP MY MANAGEMENT TEAM ADEQUATELY PREPARE AND KEEP STEPPING FORWARD.

WE DO HEAR THAT A LOT THAT IT IS BENEFICIAL TO THE BUSINESSES TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON. THE OTHER THING WE HEAR IS OUR SOCIAL MEDIA REACH. WE SHARE THE LOCAL BUSINESS POSTS ON OUR PAGE. IN THE LAST 90 DAYS, WE HAVE HAD OVER 75,000 SOCIAL MEDIA REACH ON FACEBOOK AN INSTAGRAM.

IT IS SIGNIFICANT AND THEY DO APPRECIATE THAT WE DO THAT.

CRITIQUE REGARDING OUR ORGANIZATION COUNCIL THEY ARE WORKING TO SUPPORT OUR ORGANIZATION.

ONE THING THEY WORK ON IS THE BEER FESTIVAL.

WE HELD THAT THIS YEAR ON OCTOBER 1.

WE HAD 1900 ATTENDEES IT WAS ROUGHLY DOUBLE THE SIZE LAST YEAR. TWENTY-SEVEN BREWERIES AND THAT WAS VERSUS 12 LAST YEAR. WE ARE PLANNING FOR OUR NEXT LINE THE FIRST WEEK IN OCTOBER NEXT YEAR END THAT WILL BE OCTOBER 7. SO WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT. THE PROMOTIONS COUNSEL THERE GOAL IS TO BRING PEOPLE INTO DOWNTOWN, INTO THE BUSINESSES WHETHER RESTAURANTS OR RETAIL. AT TIMES WHEN IT IS TRADITIONALLY SLOW LIKE AUGUST OR FEBRUARY, AND WHEN THEY NEED THAT LITTLE BUMP. SO WE HAVE DONE A SERIES OF EVENTS THAT IT HAS BEEN BUSY IN THE FALL WOULD TRICK-OR-TREAT AND MANY OTHERS COMING OUT. WE DID WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THE WINDOW PAINTING. WE HAVE 22 LOCATIONS THAT PARTICIPATED. BOTH ON EIGHTH STREET AND DOWNTOWN. THERE IS A MAP AVAILABLE WE ARE PUTTING ON SOCIAL MEDIA FOR THOSE LOCATIONS.

BUT THIS PROGRAM IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN BRIGHTENING UP DOWNTOWN. I KNOW THIS FROM THEIR TEACHER.

THEY PLAN THE DESIGN FOR THE WINDOWS.

THEY WORK ON THE LAYOUT. THIS IS A GOOD PLACE FOR THEM TO SHOWCASE THEIR TALENTS SO IT IS A MULTIDIMENSIONAL PROJECT AND WE ARE HAPPY TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.

THE DESIGN COUNSEL, THEY HAVE BEEN BUSY ON STREETSCAPE ELEMENTS. AS YOU KNOW WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE SIDEWALKS AND THE STREETLIGHTS, AND WE HAVE BEEN EVALUATING AN RFP ON THE STREET DESIGN STUDY AND THAT WOULD BE NEW STREETLIGHTS FOR THE DOWNTOWN DISTRICT.

AND LOOKIN TOWARDS NEXT YEAR, ADDITIONAL FOCUS ON HOW WE BEAUTIFY EIGHTH STREET AND MAKE IT MORE WALKABLE AND SAFER, AND IF WE NEED TO GO BLOCK BY BLOCK WE WILL DO THAT.

BUT WE ARE STARTING TO MAKE PROGRESS THERE.

WE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL BUSINESS OWNERS THAT ARE NOW ON OUR BOARD OR COUNCIL SO THEY ARE GIVING US VALUABLE INPUT INTO THOSE AREAS, SO WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT THAT. AS FAR AS FINANCES GO THIS IS A GLIMPSE AT WHAT WE HAD AS A BUDGET FOR LAST YEAR.

OUR FISCAL YEAR RUNS THE SAME AS THE CITY.

AS YOU CAN SEE AS FAR AS REVENUE WE ENDED UP ABOUT WHERE WE PROJECTED WE WOULD. WE WERE OVER ON OUR FUNDRAISING BECAUSE THE ISLAND HOP EVENT WAS, TWICE AS SUCCESSFUL AS IT WAS LAST YEAR SO THAT GAVE US A BALL.

IN TERMS OF THE EXPENSES, THEY WERE PRETTY MUCH WHERE WE THOUGHT THEY WOULD END UP. SO WE HAD A LITTLE MORE SURPLUS.

WE ARE WORKING RIGHT NOW ON DEVELOPING A FAÇADE AND GRANT PROGRAM THAT WE ARE HOPING TO UNVEIL IN THE 1ST HALF OF BETWEEN THREE. THE BUDGET FOR THE COMING YEAR, IT IS FAIRLY SIMILAR, A LITTLE BIT HIGHER.

WE HAVE BUMPED UP THE FRONT RAISING BECAUSE OF ILAN OP AND OUR EXPECTATIONS, WHILE WE ARE NOT PLANNING TO GROW THAT IN TERMS OF ATTENDEES, WE ARE PLANNING TO EXPAND IT SO WE ARE ENCOURAGING BOTH PEOPLE THAT LIVE HERE AND PEOPLE WHO WOULD COME HERE FOR THE EVENT TO STAY FOR THE WEEKEND AND ENJOY EVENTS ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY AS WELL. YOU CAN SEE THE OTHER ITEMS. PREVIOUSLY WE HAD A PAID INTERN AND NOW WE HAVE MOVED INTO SOCIAL MEDIA EXPRESSION. THE BUSINESSES HAVE EXPRESS HOW IMPORTANT THIS IS TO THEM FOR SHARING AND PROMOTING THEIR BUSINESSES. I TRIED TO KEEP IT QUICK AND MAKE THE HIGHLIGHTS. I AM OPEN TO ANY QUESTIONS.

WE HAVE TALKED ABOUT SECTION 1.035 OF THE LAND DEVELOPMENT CODE BUT ADDITIONALLY THIS ONE STATES IN CONNECTION WITH THREE PLOTS WHICH IS WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT, ALL BUILDING OR STRUCTURES LOCATED IN THESE ZONING DISTRICTS SHOULD BE ERECTED UPON ONE ZONING SITE SUCH BUILDING SITE SHOULD HAVE THE MINIMAL STREET FRONTAGE OF 50 FEET. THEY ARE ASKING FOR 40.5 FEET.

ADDITIONALLY, THIS ALSO CALLS FOR 50 FEET OF STREET FRONTAGE.

AND ASKING FOR 36 AND A HALF FEET.

30% LOWER THAN THE LAND DEVELOPMENT CODE.

IF THIS GETS APPROVED, YOU SAID THE 50 FEET NO LONGER APPLIES.

IF SOMEONE COULD MEET THIS YOU HAVE TO ALLOWED THEM OTHERWISE YOU'RE APPLYING THE LAW DIFFERENTLY TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE.

STICK WITH THE LAND DEVELOPMENT CODE.

AND WE JUST NEED TO STICK WITH IT.

ALSO SECTION 1.0206 OF THE FERNANDINA BEACH COMPREHENSIVE PLAN REDEVELOPMENT IS COMPATIBLE AND CONSISTENT WITH THE RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT PATTERN. ALSO BEING CONSIDERED IS PROTECTING THE STABILITY OF THE AREA.

CAP IN A NEIGHBORHOOD THAT AS BEEN THIS WAY FOR AT LEAST 75 YEARS AND CHANGING IT DRASTICALLY DOES NOT PROTECT THE ESTABLISHED RESIDENTIAL AREA. I KNOW THINGS HAVE TO CHANGE.

I'M NOT A PROPONENT OF THINKING IT WILL REMAIN THE SAME BUT IF WE DON'T APPROVE THESE REPLIED SHE WILL GET THE PROPERTIES A CHANCE TO SAY THERE. SOMEBODY MAY BUY THEM AND DECIDE TO RENOVATE THEM.
