AND I ALSO AM A CEO OF THE UNSTOPPABLE [INAUDIBLE] LIFE PROGRAMS FOR WOMEN.

POINT THAT I WANTED TO BRING UP, UH, ON 6.2 AND THE DISCUSSION, UH, IF YOU REMEMBER, UM, THERE WAS A QUESTION ABOUT THE APPLICATION FROM THE AMELIA ISLAND BOOK FESTIVAL, COINCIDENTALLY, THAT THEY WERE REQUESTING MONEY FOR AN EXPO, TO BRING SOME AUTHORS HERE AND SOME OF THE BOARD MEMBERS HAD A CONVERSATION ABOUT THAT.

AND I THINK SCOTT WAS GOING TO FOLLOW UP.

UM, SO I DID FOLLOW UP AND THAT THOSE EXPENSES ARE FOR PURCHASING BOOKS FOR THE INDIVIDUALS THAT WILL BE AT THE EXPO, AS WELL AS HELPING OF THE COST TO GET AUTHORS AT THE EXPO.

SO IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THAT WOULD FALL IN LINE WITH THE CRITERIA FOR THESE GRANTS.

SO SO NORMALLY HISTORICALLY WHAT WE HAD DONE WITH THE SENIOR GRANTS IS WE WOULD CONFIRM THAT THEY MEET THE CRITERIA OF THE GRANT, AND THEN WE WOULD SEND THEM OFF TO THE COUNTY THAT HAD A GROUP OF EMPLOYEES THAT WOULD REVIEW THEM.

AND THE REASON FOR THAT WAS THAT MANY OF THE PEOPLE THAT WERE SUBMITTING FOR GRANTS HAD REPRESENTATION ON THE BOARD.

SO A SMALL CONFLICT OF INTEREST IN PEOPLE'S OPINION, WHICH MAKES SENSE.

SO THERE'S BEEN A LITTLE BACK AND FORTH AND WHAT WE WERE JUST TALKING ABOUT A LITTLE BIT AGO WAS, WHY DON'T WE IT'S POSSIBLE THAT THIS COULD BE THE LAST THE LAST GRANTS THAT THE BOARD DOES, DEPENDING ON WHAT, WE'RE GOING TO DO MOVING FORWARD.

BUT I THINK WHAT WE COULD DO IS IF IT'S OKAY WITH THE BOARD IS, UM, THERE WAS THERE FIVE GRANTS.

WE WERE THINKING OF APPROVING ALL FIVE, AND WE COULD JUST MOVE FORWARD WITH THOSE.

IF I COULD GET CONSENSUS FROM YOU GUYS THAT YOU WOULD BE OKAY WITH APPROVING ALL FIVE OF THOSE, FOR PAYMENT, AND THEN WE COULD REACH OUT TO THOSE ORGANIZATIONS. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE THERE'S MAYBE, MAYBE BEEN A LITTLE TURNOVER OR NEW PEOPLE AT THE COUNTY, SO THEY ARE WANTING THE BOARD TO MAKE THE DECISION ON THOSE GRANTS.

SO IF IT WOULD BE OKAY WITH YOU ALL, IF WE COULD GO AHEAD AND APPROVE BASICALLY GIVING THOSE GRANTS OUT TO THOSE FIVE ORGANIZATIONS. AND ARE THERE ANY CONCERNS WITH THAT? THE ONLY THING I HAVE, SCOTT, IS I WANT TO SEE IF I HAVE THEM WITH ME.

IF WE COULD REMEMBER WHO ALL FIVE OF THEM WERE.

OKAY, SO MY RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD IS THAT RATHER THAN GO BACK AND FORTH WITH THE COUNTY ON LEAVING ONE OUT, THIS MAY BE THE LAST ITERATION OF THIS BOARD'S APPROVAL ON GRANTING.

WE SHOULD JUST GO AHEAD IF THAT'S OKAY WITH THE BOARD APPROVE ALL FIVE OF THEM, IT'S NOT GOING TO MAKE THAT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE IN THE BUDGET ANYWAY.

SO EACH FIVE OF THOSE HAD REQUESTED $500.

AND AS YOU CAN SEE ON THERE IS THE MANY OF THOSE WERE, UH, REPRESENTATIVES THAT WERE ON THIS BOARD.

AND THAT WAS THE REASONING AND THAT WAS THE REASONING BEHIND HAVING SOMEONE ELSE APPROVE THEM.

WE ALREADY HAVE ONE WRITING PROGRAM IN, AND THEY'RE REALLY ENCOURAGING SOME YOUTH PROGRAMS SO WE'RE GETTING SOME MORE YOUNG ADULT, UM, AUTHORS AND TRYING TO REALLY ENCOURAGE THAT LITERACY WITH YOUTH, BUT ALSO VERY WELCOMING TO THE SENIORS IN THE COMMUNITY TOO, WITH THESE FREE, AMAZING AUTHOR PRESENTATIONS.

OKAY, TERRIFIC. SO YOU UNDERSTAND THE LITTLE WE HAD A LITTLE DISCUSSION ABOUT, YOU KNOW, WE DIDN'T WANT TO FUND AN EVENT.

WE WANTED TO FUND DIRECTLY TO THE KIDS.

RIGHT? SO I THINK WE CLARIFIED THAT, OKAY, THAT BEING THE CASE, CAN WE GET A SO IF WE COULD JUST YEAH, I MEAN, AS RICHARD WAS SAYING, IF WE COULD GET A MOTION AND A SECOND AND THEN WE COULD VOTE ON IT AND THEN IT'S DONE.

AND WE HAVE THEM ALL THERE SCOTT.

WE HAVE RECEIVED SIX WHICH IS HIGHER THAN WE NORMALLY RECEIVE.

UM, WE WOULD ONCE AGAIN LIKE TO ASK LET'S JUST MOVE FORWARD WITH THESE GRANTS AS WELL.

UM, THE ONLY UH, THERE WAS THE SAME THING WITH THE UH, BOOK FESTIVAL IS THE EXPO.

WE KIND OF HAD THOSE, UH, QUESTIONS ANSWERED.

SO I THINK WE CAN MOVE FORWARD WITH THAT AS WELL.

THE ONLY ONE THAT I THINK WE SHOULD, OR THAT WE FEEL WE SHOULD WAIT ON IS THE ONE FROM THE TOWN OF HILLIARD.

UH, THE TOWN OF HILLIARD IS NOT A 501C3.

HOWEVER, THEY ARE WORKING BECAUSE THEY HAVE AND RICHARD MAYBE YOU CAN EXPLAIN A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT.

THEY HAVE AN ORGANIZATION OUTSIDE OF THE CITY EXISTENCE THAT UH, IS THE ONE ACTUALLY APPLYING FOR THIS GRANT.

RIGHT. SO THE TOWN OF HILLIARD HAS DONE A REALLY WONDERFUL JOB IN RENOVATING THEIR DOWNTOWN MAIN PARK, AND THEY'VE PUT IN SOME THEY'VE RE-LANDSCAPED.

THEY'VE PUT IN, UM, PATHWAYS FOR WALKING.

THEY'VE PUT IN UM, UH, RECREATIONAL EQUIPMENT FOR THE, FOR THE POPULATION TO USE IN THE RECREATIONAL FORM, THEY HAVE A BUILDING THAT THEY'RE GOING TO ACTUALLY, PUT A MURAL ON THAT WE DID ACTUALLY, WE DID THROUGH OUR EARLY WORK WITH, THE TOWN AND THE MURAL PEOPLE THAT I HAD CONTACTED WAY BACK WHEN IN LAST FALL.

SO THEY'VE DONE A LOT TO KIND OF FIX THIS UP.

AND THEY WANT TO COMPLETE IT BY THIS APPLICATION.

AND THEY HAD THE THEY HAD THE RECREATION DIRECTOR FILL IT OUT, WHICH CAUSED THE PROBLEM THAT IT NEEDED TO COME THROUGH THEIR SPORTS, THE SPORTS RECREATION 501C3 AND I'LL GET THAT AMENDMENT.

BUT SO WE COULDN'T AS IT STANDS NOW APPROVE THAT ONE TODAY TO MOVE FORWARD.

SO UM, I WILL GET BACK WITH HILLIARD AND I DID ALREADY SENT HER AN EMAIL.

THERE'S A FEW OTHER ISSUES WITH THIS PACKET, IF YOU LOOK THROUGH IT.

SO 500 WOULD COVER THE COST OF AT LEAST ONE CLASS.

SO THE THE VISION FOR THEM AND FOR US NEEDS TO BE IF THE POPULATION IS GOING TO MOVE TO MID COUNTY AND THAT'S WHERE THE NEW HOUSING AND NEW DEVELOPMENT IS, THEN, YOU KNOW, WHERE IS THE ARTS PERFORMANCE VENUES THAT WAY AND HOW CAN WE IMPACT AND RESPOND TO THE GROWTH THAT'S HAPPENING IN THE COUNTY IN THE NEXT 3 TO 5 YEARS? ALL THAT HAS KIND OF SHAKEN THE GROUND OF WHERE WE'VE BEEN OPERATING.

AND I'M GLAD YOU'VE ALL APPRECIATED THAT.

AND THE FOLKS THAT WORKED ON THE COMMITTEE, THE STRATEGIC PLANNING.

BRAD, I THANK YOU AND KIM WILD, BUT FOR YOU TO APPROVE IT UNANIMOUSLY, I DON'T THINK IT WAS ANY OF THE RHETORIC THAT I PUT FORTH.

I THINK YOU GOT THE OBVIOUS PROBLEM HERE, THAT IT'S A FUNDING ISSUE.

WE'RE NOT LOOKING TO MAKE A PROFIT, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, WITH THE EXPENSES THAT WE INCUR, UH, WE'RE DEPLETING THE MONEY THAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE GENERATED OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.

SO IT DOESN'T PUT US ON THE RIGHT TRACK, BUT AT LEAST IT'S CREATED THE AWARENESS FOR YOU ALL TO UNDERSTAND.

THEY ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR ARTS AND CRAFTS FROM WHERE WE ARE AND HOPEFULLY MOVING IT UP THAT WAY.

AND I JUST SHARE THAT WITH YOU.

IF NOTHING ELSE, AT LEAST YOU MIGHT TAKE AN HOUR AND JUST GO UP THERE.

IT'S A 20 MINUTE RIDE STRAIGHT UP.

THEY'VE CREATED A NEW PAVILION, AND THEY WANT TO HAVE A CONVERSATION THAT HAS AN ARTS AND CRAFTS NASSAU PAVILION PIECE THERE THAT HAS ARTISTS, CRAFTS, PEOPLE DOING DEMONSTRATIONS AND PARTICIPATING.

SO I THINK EVERYBODY'S FINALLY GETTING THE IDEA THAT, YOU KNOW, WE WANT TO UNIFY THE COUNTY IN AND MAKE SURE THAT ARTS DOESN'T FALL THROUGH THE CRACKS, NOR DOES IT BE ISOLATED IN ITS VENUES AND ITS OPPORTUNITIES THAT IT KIND OF OPENS UP AND GETS OUT THERE.

SO I'M GLAD TO SEE THAT BY US GETTING AROUND AND TALKING ABOUT WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO.

WE'VE BROUGHT ATTENTION TO LITTLE TOWNS LIKE HILLIARD THAT CALLAHAN WANTS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE SHOW UP WITH THE ARTIST, THAT THE FAIR SAYS, FORGET ABOUT IT.

I WANT YOU GUYS TO COME ON UP HERE AND DO STUFF.

SO I THINK THIS IS THE IDEA THAT WE NEED TO HAVE.

THIS IS THE VISION THAT MAKES US, MEANINGFUL TO THE REST OF THE COUNTY AND TO THE RESIDENTS AND THE BUSINESSES.

AND I KNOW THAT, YOU KNOW, SHOULD THE HOTEL INDUSTRY EXPAND AND BED TAX MOVES COUNTYWIDE AND THE FUNDING OPENS UP IN ALL THOSE OTHER AREAS THAT REALLY BRINGS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR ARTS TO SHINE, BECAUSE WITHOUT THE ARTS AND CRAFTS AND THE RECREATIONAL AND THE PROGRAMS THAT WE PUT ON AND THE PERFORMANCES WE PUT ON, YOU KNOW, YOU REALLY HAVE ISOLATED POCKETS. BUT IF THE JAZZ FESTIVAL CAN PLAY AT THE FAIR, AND IF, YOU KNOW, IF YOU GUYS ARE ALL CIRCULATING AROUND, EVERYBODY BENEFITS IN THE GOOD NEWS THAT ARTS AND CULTURE BRINGS TO NASSAU COUNTY.

WE TOOK THE ARTS LEADERS FROM BLUE FIRE THEATER IN YULEE TO NASSAU ARC TO CALLAHAN, AND WE BRING THEM TOGETHER TWICE A YEAR IN A ROUNDTABLE MEETING.

AND WE TALK ABOUT WHO WE ARE, WHAT WE DO, WHAT THEY NEED, WHERE THEY'RE GOING, WHAT THEY SEE AS THE OPPORTUNITIES, WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP THEM.

AND THAT HELPS ALL OF US UNDERSTAND HOW A, THEY CAN COLLABORATE WITH EACH OTHER AND HOW WE CAN CREATE OUR NEXT STEPS FORWARD.
